Today I bought Pete Nelson’s Treehouses of the World at Barnes and Noble. I paid for it and took it to the in-house Starbucks so I could sip latte and read and look at pictures.
People ask me if I still buy paper books now that I own a Kindle. The answer, of course, is yes, yes, yes. I buy many more books for my Kindle now than paper books, but what would Treehouses of the World be on a Kindle? Not nearly exciting because the appeal for me is looking at the photos and wishing I owned one.
Are girls allowed to like tree houses? Well, if you look at the owners of the tree houses in this book, you’ll see that grown-up girls definitely like them. Up high. In wonderful trees. Secret ones and ones that look out over the surrounding country.
Would I like to own a tree house? Oh my yes! I’d love to have a secret place of my own where I can write and do my art in peace. Not that I can’t work in peace at home. Now that my kids are off working on their own lives I have plenty of peace. But a tree house would be so inspiring, don’t you think? One with a little deck and a stairway up where you can lock the gate. Electricity. A couch for napping. A little sink and some facilities not too far away.
OK! I’m old enough I want my comforts too. The houses featured in Treehouses of the World are fantastic. You can even rent one. Now that I could afford. An entire tree house of my own? Not so much.
